Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Two-Factor Authentication provides an extra layer of security to your PracticeQ account.

Enabling Two-Factor Authentication drastically reduces the chances of having your clients' private information stolen. When 2FA is enabled, an attacker would not only need to know your email and password, they would also have to know the authentication code that can either be sent via SMS or obtained through an authenticator app.

How It Works

Once enabled, this is how Two-Factor Authentication works:

  1. Sign in to PracticeQ with your email and password, as usual.
  2. An access code will be immediately sent to your phone via SMS, or you will get the code from your authenticator app.
  3. You will be asked to enter the security code before having access to your account.

To keep things simple, you’ll have the option to trust the computer you’re using, so you don’t have to provide the second authentication step every time you sign in. You will still be covered, since Two-Factor Authentication will be required for any sign-ins made from a different computer.

Enable Two-Factor Authentication

  1. Click More → Account.
  2. You will see two options under Two-Factor Authentication (2FA).
  3. Select your desired option and click Set Up Two-Factor Authentication.

Note: the Authenticator App is the more secure method.

  • If you select the Text Message (SMS) option, enter your phone number and click Send Code.

Text Message (SMS)

  • If you select the Authenticator App option, you will first be prompted to download an authenticator application; PracticeQ will provide three suggestions. Please use your app store to download the application.
  • You will be provided a barcode to scan into your authenticator app.
  • You will then need to enter the security code generated by your authenticator app.

Note: Security is only as strong as its weakest link, so if other people are accessing your account (assistants and administrators), please encourage them to enable Two-Factor Authentication as well.
