Can Adults Use the Client Portal on Behalf of Their Dependents?

If you work with minors, you can grant a parent access to their child's client portal, even if they only have a single email address. To do so, you must link the dependent's account to the parent/guardian account.

  1. Make sure that the parent already has an active portal account.
  2. Click Lists → Clients and open the minor's client profile.
  3. Select the Messages tab.
  4. Do not click the green Invite Client to Portal button; instead, click or link it to a parent portal.

  5. In the Link Portal Accounts window, search for the parent by starting to type their name or email. Select the proper client from the list.
  6. Click Link Portal Accounts.
  7. Repeat these steps for any other dependents of the same parent.

Parent/Guardian View

  • When the parent logs into their portal, they will see an icon on the top menu that allows them to switch between profiles.
  • Once linked, a parent can perform any action on behalf of the minor, such as fill out a form, pay an invoice, or book an appointment.
