Can Adults Use the Client Portal on Behalf of Their Dependents?

Yes! Practitioners who work with minors and families can let a parent access the client portal of their children, even if they only have a single email address. This can be accomplished by linking the dependent's account to the parent/guardian account.

Follow the steps below to link a minor to a parent's portal account:

  1. Make sure that the parent already has an active portal account.
  2. Navigate to "Lists > Clients" and open the minor's client profile, then go to the "Messages" tab.
  3. Instead of clicking on the Invite Client button, click on "or link it to a parent portal" (as shown below).

  4. In the popup dialog, search for the parent by starting to type their name or email, and select the proper client from the list.

  5. Click on "Link Portal Accounts".

You can repeat the same steps for any other dependents of the same parent.

When the parent logs into their portal, they will see an icon on the top menu that allows them to switch between profiles.

The parent can then perform any action on behalf of the minor, such as fill out a form, pay an invoice, or book an appointment.

Linking a Minor Account that is Already Active

If you had already created a portal account for a minor and now wish to link it to the parent's account, follow the steps below:

  1. Click on the speech bubble on the top menu and select the minor client from the client list on the left.
  2. Click on the 3 dots located on the top right corner of the page and choose the option "Link to Parent".

  3. In the popup dialog, search for the parent by starting to type their name or email, and select the proper client.
  4. Click on "Link Portal Accounts".

Unlinking a Minor Account

If you've accidentally linked a child to a parent's account and wish to unlink it, follow the steps below:

  1. Click on the speech bubble on the top menu and select the minor client from the client list on the left.
  2. Click on the 3 dots located on the top right corner of the page and choose the option "Link to Parent".
