Client Portal: Minor Becomes an Adult

When a client who was a minor when they began treatment becomes an adult, they will typically want their own secure client portal. Here is how to handle this in PracticeQ.

If the parent/guardian is currently a contact in the client's profile:

  1. Click Lists → Clients.
  2. Open the client's profile.
  3. Click Edit.
  4. Enter the client's email in the Email field.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Invite the client to their own portal. 

If the parent/guardian email is in the client profile:

  1. Download the messages from the existing portal by clicking the three dots icon → Export Messages.
  2. Place the downloaded messages (they will be in CSV format) in the Files tab of the client's profile. Note: You will not be able to import the downloaded messages into the new portal.
  3. Delete the portal by clicking the three dots icon → Delete Account
  4. Note: Clicking Delete Account will only delete the portal; it will not delete client information, claims, invoices, etc.
  5. Change the email in the client profile to the client's email (see steps above).
  6. Invite the client to the portal.

If the parent/guardian wishes to still have portal access as well:

  1. Add the parent/guardian as a contact in the client's profile 
  2. Invite them to the portal. 
  3. The portal will start fresh.
