ePrescribe: Record Medications Before Prescribing
Follow the steps below if you would like to record a medication but you are not yet ready to prescribe it.
Record a Current Medication
To record a medication without prescribing it, follow these steps. Any medication added as a current medication will be checked for drug interactions against the patient's medication list until any recorded expiration dates.
- Click Lists → Clients and open the client's profile.
- Select the Prescriptions tab.
- Click Prescribe New Drug.
- Search for and select the medication. You have two options:
- Enter the medication name in the Search field
- Choose one of the Medication Types in the toolbar, or click the icon to browse by type.
- Click Set Current Medication.
- Choose an option:
- With drug name only: If you do not know the strength, you can select this option to record the drug name.
- With detail: Choose this option if you know the strength and would like to record it along with the drug name. Click the dropdown arrow to view more strengths.
- Complete the following fields as needed and click Save.
- Expiration: Check the box for Chronic if the patient will be on the medication indefinitely, or select an expiration date if the medication will be ending. The drug-to-drug interaction checker will no longer check this drug after the expiration date, so if you would like this medication to always be checked for interactions against the patient's allergies list, select Chronic.
- Detail: Record who prescribed the medication as well as other comments. This is optional.
Now, the medication will be listed on the patient's list with No Pharmacy - Save Only notated under Pharmacy.
Prescribe the Saved Medication
- Locate the saved medication in the client's record.
- Select Prescribe, and the system will prompt you to add the necessary information.
- When the following box pops up, select Continue.
- Dosage: If you have not already selected a dosage, it will ask for that first. Select the correct strength.
- Format: Select a format. You will be able to edit this in the next step.
- Complete the prescription like normal.
